In my blog previous blog about my secret 10 Minute Daily Hack to get Well Behaved Kids called special time.
Spending a minimum of 10 minutes a day uninterrupted every day (and if can longer or twice a day) per child doing what your child wants to do. Has helped provide kids with the the attention they crave and the power to be in charge making them feel important. This has meant that kids will become more cooperative, play more alone and be less likely to seek out attention in negative ways.
Here are my Simple 5 Steps:
- Announce to your child that it is time for special time (it is important to label the time so that they know), if it is not labelled and you spend time with them, they won’t consider that special time.
- Ask your child what they would like to do for special time – if they are unsure you can offer suggestion such as colouring, play dough, science experiments, cars, outside play.

- Set and start the timer to initiate special time (at least 10 minutes is recommended however you can do more or less).
- Play with your child doing whatever they want until the timer beeps
- When the timer beeps thank your child for special time. Let them know you look forward to having special time again and name the time that will be, for example tomorrow (it is important to tell them when you will have special time with them next so that they know they will get this magical time with you again).
