Why you need to WATER your Marriage Every Day

Every day, I undertake actions to enhance my marriage. Recently, I heard Lauryn Bosstick describe this as “watering” her marriage on her podcast, The Skinny Confidential Him & Her Podcast: “10 Self Care Habits To Upgrade Your Life.” I couldn’t agree more.

Just like delicate flowers, marriages require constant care and attention to flourish. Similar to a neglected plant withering, a relationship left unattended can and will deteriorate. I’ll admit, I’ve let a fair share of flowers perish due to neglect. Thus, the importance of watering your marriage daily cannot be overstated.

Personally, I don’t aspire for my marriage to merely be “good” or “alright.” I aim for it to thrive, grow, and improve each day. Furthermore, my marriage serves as the foundation of my empire, and if it lacks solidity, everything else can begin to crack, potentially leading to the collapse of the entire structure we’ve spent years building. This collapse not only affects us but also impacts our children, work, businesses, and investments.

Every single day, I actively seek ways to nurture my marriage, treating it like a garden. Whether it’s scheduling a date night, expressing appreciation for something he has done, relieving him of a task, arranging something romantic, or simply trying something new together, these actions contribute to its growth.

These gestures don’t always have to be grand. With both of us pursuing our purposes and goals, sometimes we’re occupied with making a difference. However, regular communication, expressions of love, and shared experiences are crucial for building upon the strong foundation of trust and understanding.

Relationships thrive on growth and evolution. By investing in our partnership each day, we create an environment conducive to continuous development, manifested through shared goals, individual achievements, and exploration of new experiences together.

Moreover, daily nurturing fosters resilience in the face of adversity. While life’s trials are inevitable, a well-nurtured marriage possesses the strength to weather the storms. Through mutual support, effective communication, and a shared sense of purpose, it is easier to navigate challenges so that you emerge stronger than before.

In essence, watering your marriage daily isn’t merely a suggestion; it’s a necessity. It’s the daily investments of time, effort, and affection that sustain the love, joy, and fulfilment within a partnership. By tending to your marriage with care and intentionality, you ensure it continues to bloom and flourish, enriching your lives for years to come. Plus, consider the example you will be setting for your children.
