Walking into a gym for the first time can certainly be intimidating. At first, everybody looks like an expert. It’s completely normal to feel out of place. Everyone goes through it when they get started, especially if they have been out of training for a while.

Embrace the uncomfortable, step into the fear, and get out of your comfort zone. Get comfortable being uncomfortable. You won’t regret it!
There are many reasons why you should make strength training a priority in your life. These are just a few:
Build the Body You Want & Deserve
People have different ways they want their bodies to look. Guys may want to have wider shoulders or bigger arms. Ladies may want to grow their booty or show off a toned upper body.
It doesn’t matter where you are starting from or what your goal is strength training can help you shape your body, lose weight and stay young. Together combined with proper nutrition, strength training and consistency you will look fantastic.
Mental Health
It’s not surprising that studies are starting to show strength training as an effective treatment to reduce mental health symptoms such as depression, anxiety and PTSD.
Getting to the gym 3 or 4 days a week is a great way to hold yourself accountable and build a life-changing habit. Building this discipline will carry over into all aspects of life and will have a positive effect on your mood.

Every time you show up to the gym plus increasing weights or reps you get a small win. Stacking small wins starts to add up and eventually leads to significant changes in all aspects of life.
In simple terms, strength training will help you feel really good!
Increase Self-Belief
Strength training gives you belief in yourself because you are constantly watching yourself improve. Making progress and reaching your goals do wonders for your confidence.
A great way to see progress is to track your weights and repetitions for each workout. At D8 Training we have an app where clients can add their weights and reps so that they can see improvement over time.
It is a tremendous feeling than getting a personal best in the gym. It shows you’ve gotten significantly better and that sense of pride in yourself is priceless. Which carries over to other areas of life.
Meet People who Want to Get Better
Many people you get to know at a gym are go-getters. These are people striving to be better and improve themselves. Spending time with people who want to be better will rub off on you.
If you spend time around positive go-getters, you will become a positive go-getter. There are a lot of amazing people occupying gym floors. It’s a fantastic place to network and build new friendships with people who have the same mentality as you and will support and encourage you on your fitness journey.

This is just a short list of my favourite reasons why you need to make strength training a priority today. I could go on about strength training and the impact it can have on your life. From physical to mental and emotional well-being, there aren’t many things that compare to strength training that will help you on the path to achieving a better, healthier life.
If you are on the fence and nervous about getting started at a gym, I encourage you to take that first step! You won’t regret it!
