I embarked on an exhilarating journey – the 5km Tru Grit 15+ Obstacle Course, a military-inspired challenge designed to push mental resolve and physical stamina to the limit. The day unfolded with a series of adrenaline-pumping obstacles, including running, crawling under barbed wire, climbing, swimming through a muddy water tunnel, and culminating in a daring waterslide into the Murray River. It was a concoction of fun, challenge, occasional grossness, and immense reward.
I entered this challenge from a desire to push my personal boundaries and add another achievement to my list, proving to myself that I am mentally and physically resilient. My overarching goal was simple: give every obstacle a try. As I reflect on the experience, I can proudly say that I succeeded.

Now, was it easy? Yes and no. Some obstacles posed little challenge, while others tested my mettle to the core. The most mentally challenging, however, was navigating the tunnel of muddy water with everything but my face submerged. Nervous, claustrophobic, and grossed out, I questioned my sanity and choice as I approached. Yet, without complaint and as swiftly as possible, I conquered it. Check it out in the video below.
WHY? I did it because by intentionally engaging in challenges, whether signing up for a military-style obstacle course or trying a new activity, I aim to train the muscle of mental toughness. This is the muscle that enables me to face life’s challenges head-on.
