Trying to think of gifts for kids?

Gift giving comes up all year round, in particular for birthdays and Christmas.

Christmas is fast approaching, and it is that time of year when you are trying to find the perfect gifts for people. Here are two tips for thinking about gifts for kids.

Tip 1: Experiences

On my side of the family each year the aunts and uncles give all the cousins an experience, such as taking them all ten pin bowling or to the zoo. There are some really adventurous experiences out there such as rock climbing or quieter ones such as going to the movies. This year I have decided to take my daughter, nieces and nephews to build their own terrariums.

One of the main benefits from my point of view is that my daughter absolutely loves a day out with her cousins and has more fun than receiving an item that she may lose interest in or grow out of. There are so many options available that it is possible to find an experience that will suit a range of ages in the one go. Alternatively, you may choose to take a group of older kids on one experience and the younger kids on a different one.

Tip 2: Google

Another tip I have found very helpful is to google the age and sex of the kid you want to buy for, for example “gifts for 9 year old boys”. This results in a number of results which are web pages with lists of suggestions of what is popular for that age group at the moment. I find you do have to wade through many suggestions that won’t be suitable for your child in particular, however I always end up with a couple of suggestions that seem really appropriate for them. Plus, these suggestions are ones I would never think of myself (like the terrariums!) which adds to the fun of gift giving.

One word of warning though, you need to be careful about the origin of the webpage you are looking at when considering the cost of a gift. I got caught out once by seeing something on an American website and seeing the US cost but assuming it was the Australian cost. The actual cost to me would have been 3-fold! You should still search these websites – they have some great ideas that you can then investigate in your own location or be prepared for the currency exchange.

So, here’s to another year of gift giving. Good luck and be organized!!!!
