SPOILER ALERT! Your Negative Self Talk is NOT Unique

I received an email newsletter from Heidi Wolff owner of Heidi Wolff Photography where she had several conversations with members that went something like this:

  • I have put on weight over Winter.
  • I am un-photogenic, you don’t understand.
  • Please don’t look at my current website or social media as it isn’t any good.
  • I need to freshen my whole wardrobe before I even think about photos.
  • I will have photos when x,y, and z happens.

As I read that I was able to relate to the phrases as I have told myself those stories too. At the same time it made me feel a sense of relief as I realised:

  1. I am not alone and others share the same insecurities or fears as me. Which means I am not unique hence I can overcome them.
  2. I need to stop focusing on what I don’t have, telling others what I have is not good and justifying on why I cannot now and instead focus on my outcomes and goals so that I can make a difference.

Here are 3 changes at the moment I decided to make:

  • Yes, I have put on winter weight though I choose no longer to share this story with myself and others. Instead, I will focus on being my healthy self and taking positive healthy actions one day at a time (such as gym 3-4 times a week at D8 Training and focusing on eating healthy nutritious foods that fuel me).
  • Yes, my current websites and social media can improve however I set a goal on where I want to be in 6, 12 and 18 months’ time and I will take daily or weekly actions towards that.
  • I have booked a family photographer to take photos.

Thank you Heidi for the email that you shared, it was a message I needed to hear and I appreciate the challenge you set.

Heidi’s Challenge

“I have a challenge for you! I want us (including myself) to spring clean our negative dialogue. Take check of what false narratives we are telling ourselves and focus on telling the real story:

‘I am more than enough the way I am and my goals and aspirations for my life and business are worthy and achievable. And, I can still be grateful for where I currently am and still desire more.’”

Will you take this challenge too? If so please leave a comment below of at least one false narrative you will change today.
