Have you ever planned for a wonderful activity with the kids which took you longer to set up and pack up than it did to keep the kids engaged?
I now look for ways to turn activities into an adventure for the kids and get them to experience the whole process. Recently, I turned making frozen yoghurt with the kids into an adventure. We got to spend great quality time together and stay active while having lots of fun.
Frozen Yoghurt Adventure Steps
- Explain the activity to the kids and get their buy-in (ask if they want to make this delicious snack).
- Get them to choose the fruit flavour they want to make for the yoghurt. If they all pick a flavour you can combine the flavours or get them to make their own.
- Bike ride, scoot or walk to the shops to buy the ingredients. Great way to keep kids active too!
- At the shops, get the kids to find and pick the ingredients.

- Came home, put bikes away, wash hands and get all the ingredients out
- Made the delicious yoghurt (be sure to let the kids pour all the ingredients into the blender and press the button).
Frozen Yoghurt Recipe
- Get the kids to scoop the yoghurt into the container or popsicles. Yes, there is a chance of mess, but this makes it so much more fun.
- Tidy and wash up – Let the kids lick the spoon and bowl if they want however make sure they help to wash and wipe dishes and clean the benches (again another activity and you are teaching them to contribute to packing up). For tidy and washing up, I do set the expectations at the start of the activity that you will work as a team to complete this so there are no surprises at the time.
