Bad days happen to the best of us – where you feel like everything that could have possibly gone wrong, HAS gone wrong.
You know, the kind of days where you get up at 5am to bake cupcakes for the school, and just as you are about to load them in the car your three-year-old trips over and falls right on top of them, smooshing every last one! He ruins his outfit which happens to be the only clean outfit because the washing machine broke down earlier that week.
Then on the way to work you get a call from a relative who is having a fight with another relative and you get stuck on a twenty-minute call of drama, whining and bitching which makes you miss your turn off and you end up late to work.

Then when you finally get to work your computer needs to do Windows Updates for 45 minutes so you can’t present the PowerPoint presentation that you spent two weeks preparing!
Aaaaahhh!!
Here are 5 tips to help you turn your bad day around!
1. Acknowledge the Day
Start by taking three deep breaths. Understand that the day has happened and you can’t turn back time. Acknowledge the emotion or emotions you feel, sit with it for a minute and then let it go. Maybe even sing Let it Go.
2. Text your Bestie and have a Laugh
We all have disaster days and one of the best ways to turn a negative into a positive is to find the humour in the situation. Text one of your best gal pals putting as much humour as you can into the text. After a few jokes back and forward and a bit of understanding from your bestie, you’ll be feeling better in no time!
Caveat – if your friend is a negative Nancy and will respond by telling you how why her day is worse, do not text as you will continue down the downward spiral.
3. Change your State by Moving your body
Curling up crying, whinging to others or beating yourself up about it is not going to help. Change your state, do something to get your body moving such as going for a walk, doing a 10-minute yoga/exercise YouTube video, have a cold shower, jump up and down, do a cartwheel, anything as long as you are moving. The key here is by moving your body in a positive way it will help change your state.
4. Think of 3 things you are grateful for
No matter how bad your day is, there is always so many people who have it worse. I am always grateful for the simple things we take for granted like having warm, clean running water, my kids are healthy, I have heating and air-conditioning, a washing machine (well I did before it broke down earlier this week) and an abundance of fresh food. Not to mention a wonderful husband, friends and endless opportunities.
5. Reflect on the positive of the situation
I am a true believer that everything happens for a reason and maybe this bad day was actually a blessing in disguise. For instance, maybe you needed to be late to avoid a dangerous situation, or maybe your cupcakes actually had traces of nuts and would have sent a child to the ER. Who knows! Maybe my recent bad day happened so I could write down these tips to share with you.
There is always a lesson in every situation, look for it! Maybe you need to plan your time better. Maybe you need a tip on how to respond with patience when your child asks you the same questions 100 times.
6. Oh I forgot the sixth tip! Wine obviously 🙂 🍷
We spoke about an extremely bad day, these 5 tips can be used anytime even for a not so bad day or if only one thing does not go your way. The key here is to change your state and put yourself in a positive mindset.
What do you do on a bad to improve your mood?
