5 Fun Economical Activities to do at Home with the Kids

Wondering how you can have fun with the kids without blowing the bank?

Here are 5 entertaining and economical activities great for kids to do at home (these are activities that my kids love and I hope that your kids will too).

1. Adjective Scavenger Hunt

This is a fun and entertaining idea I found for the kids to do from Meaningful Mama.

I printed out a list of adjectives on a sheet of paper. Either at home or at a park get them to try to find things that fit these adjectives.

Here is the complete list of adjectives I made, however, I only pick up to 15 at a time (more than 15 tends to get overwhelming and potential duplicates for answers). I loved seeing what items they pick for some words such as ugly and beautiful in their eyes.

2. Magic Cloud Dough

This is a fun messy play activity for the kids that can be made with items purchased from the supermarket. I loved the Mumtastic recipe, especially the extra touch of adding glitter to the dough.

3. Balance Books on your Head

I don’t know if this activity has any benefit, however, it sure made us have fun and giggles. The kids loved trying and even more enjoyed watching me try and fail. We eventually turned this into a game where we had timed races and added obstacles while balancing the book such as by weaving in and around chairs.

For younger kids, a bean bag may be an easier option.

4. Egg Game and Race Ideas

Who would have known that there is so much you can do with a hard-boiled egg (unless you are game to let the kids use unboiled eggs)? My kids love the Kid Activities egg games such as egg toss, egg rolling and egg and spoon race.

Once the games are finished you have lunch all set, eggs with vegetables on the side.

If you don’t want to use real eggs, alternatively you can always purchase an Egg and Spoon Race Game!

5. Chalk Drawing on the Pavement

I don’t know who enjoys this more, the kids or me. Life as Mama has fantastic chalk drawing ideas and games that will help keep the kids entertained for hours.

The best part is the rain washes away the chalk.

What are some fun and economical ways that you entertain the kids on a budget?
