My daughter recently competed in her first gymnastics competition. An experienced gold medal winning gymnast gave her 3 tips on how to approach the competition and calm the nerves.
- Do your Best!
- Perform like No one is Watching
- Have Fun
These 3 tips are a great way to approach life in everything that you do.
1. Do your Best
As you go about doing your daily activities especially ones that bring you closer to your goal you will feel a profound satisfaction that comes from knowing you’ve done your best.
This sense of achievement of doing your best will build confidence and self-worth which will help you create a fulfilling and purpose-driven life.

How do you determine what your best is? Assess every situation and what is required with the time available together with your goals and outcomes. It may be as simple as putting a dish in the dishwasher as opposed to leaving it in the sink or proofreading emails before you send them.
Remember when it comes to goals even if you miss the target you know you have done your best and you then can look at where improvements can be made.
2. Perform like No One is Watching
This is a great philosophy to live life by. Have you ever stopped yourself from doing something because you thought people were watching and may judge you?
I know I have, even starting this blog and videos of me on my Instagram page took me ages due to the fear of being judged. Now when I look back I wished I started earlier.
Where can use perform like no one is watching in your life? Is there something new you want to try such as a dance move, exercise class, painting or even starting a business?
Plus people are not actually watching you as Dale Carnegie says in How to Win Friends and Influence People: “When we are not engaged in thinking about some definite problem, we usually spend about 95 percent of our time thinking about ourselves.”
3. Have Fun
We are on this planet for such a short time hence you may as well have fun and enjoy the journey while you are here.
What can you do to add fun? Can you sing and shake your botty while washing the dishes? Or as you are working on your goal imagine the rewards it will bring you.
Look for ways to make fun of even the small mundane task which will brighten up your day and potentially the days of others.
As a side note the tips worked for my daughter she won the gymnastics competition.
